Questions?

Please find answers to a few common questions about Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies programs below.

General Questions

  • What internet requirements are necessary for participating in my program?
Participants should have a reliable broadband internet connection that is robust enough to handle video conferencing with minimal difficulties. Our program utilizes a video conferencing platform to create an interactive environment for students which includes having all students on camera, chat, videos, and presentations, which together create a high demand on each student's internet connection. The student experience is  dependent on a reliable internet connection to the web conferencing platform. If available, we highly recommend that participants use a wired Ethernet connection instead of a wireless connection, which can be less stable.

  • What can I expect after completing my registration for enrollment?
As the start of the program approaches, the Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies team will be sending more detailed information via email. Be sure to check that emails from precollegiate@stanford.edu do not get caught in your spam/junk folder.

Enrollment Questions

  • Can I pay in installments or with multiple credit cards?
Unfortunately, Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies is not able to offer an installment plan. The full tuition balance needs to be submitted in one payment. The transaction can only be completed using one credit card.

  • Where can I submit my tuition payment? I do not see the option on my Status Page.
In order to make the tuition payment, you must first submit the Admission Response Form. Once the form is complete and submitted, the tuition payment option will become available.

  • Can I have an extension on the enrollment/payment deadlines?
Unfortunately, we are not able to offer extensions to the enrollment and payment deadlines. Please reference the deadlines indicated in your admissions offer letter.

Academic Course Questions

  • What is the attendance policy for the live course meetings?
Participants must be fully involved in the program and should be remotely present for all program classes and activities. Participants are required to attend their course at the specified daily class time with their microphone and camera on.

All activities are designed to provide participants with a well-rounded experience both inside and outside of the classroom. Participants should not have any non-program commitments that directly conflict with required program activities.

  • Can I have a course syllabus?
Since our courses are not for credit or grades, curriculum may vary year after year. Therefore, standard syllabi are not available. However, participants will receive a syllabus or course overview from their instructor when the course begins. This flexibility allows our program instructors to create the most dynamic and up-to-date lesson plan.
    .
  • Will my instructor have office hours in addition to the live meeting time?
Yes! Instructors will hold office hours 2-3 times per week. Office hours will typically be offered during the same window of time that your live class meetings are scheduled. Your instructor will provide more detail closer to the program start.

  • Will I need to complete any work before the start of the program?
Participants will not be asked to complete any coursework prior to the start of the session. All we ask is that participants ensure that they have the necessary technology ready to go by the first day of the program, as well as any course materials that may be needed for your class. Our staff will email you several weeks before the start of the session to inform you of any such materials.

Student Life Questions

  • When will I receive a schedule of workshops and events?
Our team will share a more detailed schedule of student life activities closer to the start of the session.

  • Will student life events be recorded so I can watch later?
Most student life events and workshops will be recorded for participants who are unable to attend the event in real time. Some events may not be recorded though, and we do strongly encourage participants to attend student life activities live whenever possible.
